The two piece Kelly valve is a manually operated ball valve with a 90 degree rotation. These valves are located above and below the Kelly to close off flow through the drill string. The lower Kelly can be used as a mud saver by closing the valve before breaking the connection. These valves are manufactured to API specifications for rotary drilling equipment.
