DU Rotary Slips are for use in API insert bowls. The DU Regular has a gripping surface of 12" long and is for wells 8,000 feet and less. The DU Long has a gripping surface of 16" and is designed for deep wells and heavy drill strings.
Small pyramids on the gripping surface of the die provide a positive hold that helps reduce damage to the pipe. The non-continuous gripping surface pattern minimizes stress concentration. Body segments are firmly locked by a floating hinge that holds them in a vertical alignment, yet allows them to adjust laterally to irregularities in the master bushing taper bore. This helps assure uniform grip on the pipe and adjusts for wear or other misalignment.
